Silence on investment projects in SEZs is not the answer

My ICJ colleagues, James Tager and Vani Sathisan have co-authored an opinion piece in The Bangkok Times about how investment in Myanmar can turn abusive without transparency. Over the past few months, the ICJ has written to investors, developers, an international audit company and an environmental research institute to ask for the public disclosure of environmental impact assessments, environmental management plans and financial audit reports, with regards to two of Myanmar’s biggest Special Economic Zones (SEZ) – the Dawei and Kyauk Phyu SEZs.

The ICJ received no substantive responses.
